I am guessing the partial vin is not readable? I don't have to tell you about the "what ifs" on this. But assuming it is unreadable, you are just looking at the cost of a 010 block and the other parts.

If the crank is standard and needs NO WORK other than polishing, it is worth $800 imho.
Set of pink rods that are in good condition worth an easy $250.
Block is worth $400.
Heads; have no idea what they are going for, but you may be better off selling them separately. If I were a buyer on the short block, I would consider them just extra parts. Very unlikely you are going to find someone wanting to build that short block with those heads.

$1500 as a package deal is not out of line. But you may sit on it a while.

BTW, I would love to have that one piston with the carnage for garage art.
Would look cool on the wall.

Hello all, I'm a new member...need some help.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or just use this one I found during a search....

I am in similar situation to the OP. I have a 1969 clone and pulled the DZ302 (I believe the engine is a true DZ, but the car definitely is NOT) last year and put a 383 crate engine in. Very happy with the result, but now wanting to sell the DZ engine. The DZ is not all original parts...aluminum aftermarket heads, aftermarket intake, aftermarket carb...etc. I think all the short block parts are true DZ though.

So I first want to understand my engine codes, hoping you guys can help

Casting # 3932386
Date code is tricky...I thought they had to be four characters...but mine appears to be three... L68. Could that mean December 6th, 1968? Or if the day was single digit should it have a zero? In other words, would December 6th 1968 be L068 versus L68?

I have not yet seen a VIN stamp anywhere...but I need to look harder by the oil filter. The engine is in a wooden crate and hard to get to...so it may take me weeks to get around to this work.

Ok, so if it is a real DZ short block, what would be a good market value? I'd prefer to sell the engine whole...don't want to do all the disassembly work. It's bored .030 over and the only flaw I've found is that one of the cylinder head bolt holes has been helicoiled. I had the engine in my car for many years, and it ran fine...so I know there's no issue as far as it holding up...but the engine was last rebuilt before I bought it in 1983 so it needs refreshed for sure.

Where would be the best place to advertise it? How expensive would shipping be (I realize it depends on how far...but are we talking a few hundred?) and what's the best way to handle that as far as which company to use to ship? Would You build a wood crate? I have a huge crate that the whole engine is in...would take a fork lift or something to get it in a truck though....if I end up disassembling and selling just the short block I could use a much smaller crate.

I'll try to attach a few photos, thanks for your help!

Dave
