My inner fenders were both marked with an X. Maybe this was needed because of the front Z/28 emblem holes ?

"X" sometimes means "I acknowledge this part", or "I already did this one".

Like a check mark.

When working on the assembly line it can be difficult to remember where you are at, particularly if the line is moving slowly, stopping/starting, or before and after breaks.
