If you already have a compressor that is in good shape but otherwise just won't keep up with the air demand, you may want to consider just buying an additional compressor that can be used only when it is really needed. It takes more floor space, but is really more efficient for general daily use if you have the room. You can just buy a pump and motor and plumb it into a common tank. Just something to consider.

It does seem odd that the salesman would talk you out of it. Rotary compressors have become the go-to in home A/C. Ours is 20 years old and sits idle for 8-9 months of the year. Still works great.
Now that I said that... I made a comment about our 2007 TSX a couple weeks ago and shortly thereafter, the O2 sensors went out... ![]()
