Bone Stock 302 Dyno #’s
Spent yesterday at Jim Kid Motorsport’s dyno with my 302. The engine was rebuilt 30+ years ago so a friend of mine who specializes in Mopars went through it for me. The entire rotating assembly is original as well as the cam and pistons (so standard bore). Has NOS stamped steel rockers as well as NOS lifters and pushrods. The only “enhancements” made are a Cloyes double roller timing chain and Mahle piston rings (also headers). The rotating assembly was also balanced. I converted my distributor from points to Breakerless SE which I had good luck with in my L78 Nova. Unfortunately, this one would start breaking up at 6000. So we ended up swapping it out with an MSD unit. Best pull was 40 degrees advance, 110 octane @6500 = 360 hp. The nice surprise was leaving everything the same but running 93 pump fuel which dropped us about 2 1/2 - 3 hp. If we didn’t run out of time, I think we could have squeezed a few more out advancing to 42. Used a set of new AC 43s and they looked great when we pulled them. Totally happy with the result.
