My opinion would be that a May built car is definitely "late" in the model year, even if not so in the calendar year.
That would have been within three months of the end of 67 production. Though not definitive, I would not over think this (well, then again maybe I would, as I have a tendency to do so on my own stuff) and just look for a correctly dated 210 carb. Easier for me to shoot from the hip and make the call on someone else's car! I cannot imagine any scenario where anyone could challenge that as being correct. Here is one dated March 7: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256199789589 Not knowing who "remanufactured" it, I would look for a core and send it to Eric Jackson. He da man. Have used him multiple times with nothing less than spectacular results. I know he got sideways with some Corvette guys, but he has never been anything but good to me. If you are not wanting one fully restored, you can rebuild yourself. They are not difficult to work on. Just make sure you get all the numbers for jets and other parts, to make sure someone hasn't been in it before trying to "improve" it. On my 68 El Camino, I found that recurving the distributor, running about 10 degrees initial with 36 total and plugging the vac advance to manifold vac allowed me to go down two sizes on primary jets. Got fantastic gas mileage on the highway for what it was. OD trans helped I am certain. Your results may vary. If for some reason you don't want to use Eric, there is another fellow now sponsoring (I think) on this site that has had great reviews for carb resto. Good luck.

I'm not much help here, FWIW my latest Q-Jet car 03D has a 211 carb dated 052. I'm also guessing your's is borderline between "late" and 3rd type. Since some late production '67 parts carried over to the '68 model year (323 396 blocks in June '67 for example) the 3rd type carbs may be later than you think.
IF..it were my car I would go with a 210 carb. The one on eBay, located in Eugene OR, seller is likely Chicago Corvette Supply. Al F. moved his operation west a while back. Don't know who his rebuilder might be. |

I appreciate the input very much! Last year circa end of September a local Corvette Shop right down the road from me was having a going out of business online auction and, I went down to chat with the owner...actually I went to talk with him about my carburetor woes when he told me he was finally retiring (Vietnam Vet about my age). I got really excited seeing one of two boxes filled with old carburetors...one was dated 1968 (off a Vette) and I wanted to snag that box, but unfortunately on-line auctions like that can really go fast after waiting a long time, so I actually missed out on "both" boxes of carburetors! I wanted to get at least one to take apart and learn from if nothing else. Then sell the others on ebay.
Most of the places I've found won't give you a date correct carb to start with....won't even look! So, I'd prefer to find one and rebuild it myself or go to someone trusted...like who you've recommended. I just don't trust some of these ebay guys, especially with ratings in the 96% range or lower! I tend to agree that the 210 Late Rochester would be a good fit for my 3rd week in May Chevelle SS. My first Chevelle SS was a second week in June build but it had a Holley 780 cfm Carburetor from the factory! Yes, it was 1 of the 612 L78 Chevelles in 1967! Still sick I let that one go! I prefer Holleys too, but I'm learning that the Quadrajet can be just fine once it is set-up properly. |
