I believe 1967 was the first year for the L88 Corvette,but I'm no Corvette expert.According to my books,it was only available with the man.Trans,not a Th400.*Your Trans tag says it was assembled on the 372nd day of 1967,thus 7 days more into the following year.*35378 is the Serial number of the Trans.,not a VIN#. *The Letter code D is a 327 engine application.Only the Larger Passenger Cars got this trans. with a 327 in 67.I.E. Impala.

The turbo 400 would not fit in the transmission tunnel of the 67 Corvette without some modification to the fiberglass. Because of this, all 67 Corvettes were 4-speed or powerglide cars. All L88's for 67 and 68 were 4-speed. In 69 they mated the turbo 400 to the L88.

Thank you for the info I guess I can put that story to rest. It is however a great trans behind the 502 I have
had it upgraded with heavy duty parts a shift kit and a custom 2800 stall converter. The Nova however has the appearance of a COPO car very plain very factory.

'CD' is indeed a TH400 for an Impala with a 327 small block, I happen to have one tucked under workbench - the 327 too, couldn't pass up the pair for $100 at the local junkyard, all I had to do was disconnect it from the car [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Everyone seems to be on the money with the code of this TH400, I have found it to be applicable to a Camaro or Chevelle not a Impala. But that could be the same code for those three cars. I have a 69 L-78 SS Camaro equipped from the factory with a TH 400 transmission, and this was the first year you could RPO a TH 400 behind a solid lifter big block equipped car. "CX" code wopuld be for a ,L-78,L-89,L-72, and ZL-1 equipped Chevelle or Camaro or Nova. A "CY" TH400 would be the code for a 69 Corvette. These transmissions are VERY rare and hard to find, and they have external differences in the casing as well as some internal heavy duty part applications. CX was also available in the L-72 Impala. It was the guys on this site that confirmed a '69 L-72 convert I came across a year ago with that trans. I would be very interested in seeing pictures of the differences if you can provide them via e-mail. Please see my profile for the address. THANKS! Rick

Hi Joel,
I was reading through some old posts and came across this discussion on Turbo 400's with solid lifter big block cars. I sold a 69 L-89 Corvette with the Turbo 400 "CY" a few years ago and I've regretted it since. This combination was tremendous and the car was extremely quick even as I had the car bone stock. I'm very interested in getting one of these transmissions again. Could I please get you to send me the pictures of the differences in the "CY/CX's" versuses the standard Turbo 400's. I was under the #49 car just last week and the cases are different than my "CY". I was surprised to find that myself. I was mostly interested in the tag and the numbers so I don't know if the photos will show much of the case. I'll bring them with me this week-end.
