Default Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car

No, it is 6S011 , the first of 4 66 cars. The only one that came as a factory drag unit - the others were dealer prepared. Two were destroyed, one racing and one driving down the freeway - had a minor accident that started a fire, and they let it burn! Then it was bulldozed into a landfill ! The other remaining car has little race history and there are some questions about it.

All of them were white/blue , because they were all "carry over" 65 cars , so basically a 65 GT350 with 66 plexiglass side windows, side scoops, 66 gauges and tach on dash, but with a 65 Ford vin and all 65 GT350 features like over ride traction bars, Cragar wheels, lowered upper a-arms, etc.

The drag cars were pretty cool. I'll try to post a pic!

Colin

Here's a '65 back in the day. Gus Zuidema drove this one for Harr Ford in Worcester, Mass.

It's either the same car or one like it that I saw at the Saturday car gathering in Laguna Beach(?)

Mel Burns car in action. Spoke to the driver Don Mccain a while back. He is working for Shelby on a project for Performance Associates. Just like the old days. This 65 was painted blue and raced some more and then supposedly sold and stolen, never to be seen again. Bummer.
