I'd like to have my 68 Ram Air Firebird back. The engine was balanced and blueprinted with headers and the Royal Bobcat kit. The rearend had traction bars and the rims widened to 8 inches. It looked like a regular 400 Bird and the off white gave it a certain sleeper look.

I wanted to wait until today to post this.
On this day,26 years ago,I bought my very first car at the age of 16.It had 33K miles. It cost me $800.00,of which I earned myself. I found this 1972 Chevelle Super Sport 350 around the corner from the now defunct Flame Restaurant in Oak Brook Terrace,Il...It eventuall burned down. ![]() I bought it from the Original owner on February 6th,1980. He bought it originally from Fencl-Tufo Chevrolet in Glendale Heights Il. "Your Monster Dealer". ![]() This picture was taken by my sister within the hour I first drove it home. For this reason I cherish it the most. ![]() |

In the Fall of that same year,My best friend and I sanded down the body and added a lil Bondo to where it needed it.
I took it down the street to a neighbor who agreed to paint it,so long as we did all the taping and removal of chrome. He painted it for free, and we then added all the chrome pieces back on it. This was my HighSchool cruiser and I absouletly LOVED this Car. It did everything I asked of it and more. It exceeded all my expactations. ![]() |

In March 1981,I parked it on the street outside my friends house, while we went cruising Main Street in Lombard in his 1969 Camaro SS/RS.It was after all,his turn.
When we came home,we found my Chevelle not at all where it should be. I was the victim of a Hit & run.. ![]() It was pushed 50 feet down the block, facing 90 degrees where it started. There was no street lights in this rural area, and all I could see was small parts laying all over the street by the illumination of my friends Headlights. To say I was Pissed was an understatement..Nobody saw or heard a thing, and come Daylight, the damage was obvious. ![]() |

I called the local Police to file a report.
Afterwards they said it was highly improbable I would ever find who did this..They told me to call it a total, and drove away.My insurance Co. agreed. I refused to listen to them or let this happen,as I had to much heart & soul into her,and I was not about to give up. The frame was not bent. The Damage looked worse then it really was.My insurance Co. considered this a Total,as it was worth much less than the estimate bodyshops gave me of $2500.00. I was determined to get her fixed. But something else was tugging at me also. I picked up over 500 small pieces of the car that hit me at the accident scene.I went home and put them all together like a puzzle, and created a complete 1981 Ford Tempo front end, colored blue. ![]() |

I immediately noted all the part numbers on those parts, and confirmed them with the local Ford dealer parts man.I was right on the car model.
This was only 4 days after the accident,so I then proceeded to the local Bodyshops to see if any cars fitting that description had come in for an estimate. At the second bodyshop I visited, the manager said a Blue Ford Tempo had come showing the same damage of the grill I showed him When I asked for the name of that very customer,he refused to release it,saying it wasn't good policy for them. After pleading with him,he still refused. I went right to the Police and layed out everything up to that moment,6 officers looked at me like I had 3 heads.Dumfounded they followed me back to that Bodyshop and Ordered that manager to release the name of that cars owner. He sheepishly did. ![]() |

This was my first 1970 L78 chevelle that I bought used in the mid seventies,it was black w/white strips and black vinyl top.I blew the engine and distroyed the block shortly after I bought it and I replaced it with a 1965 396-425hp engine that was built and had an L88 cam in it.The car had no power steering and had an M21 4spd and 410 posi with ladder bars and was very quick.I sold it around 1978/1979 and later spotted it parked on a street around the damen/roscoe area in chicago in 1981 and haven't seen it since and always wondered what happened to it and missed it alot,it was a fun car to drive and always gave me a reason to get up and go to work back then.Maybe some of you Chicago area guys know where its at,the vin number is 136370K119119.
