I'll bet whomever bought it wishes he had kept it, too. |

Way back when I was chasing ZL-1s I called Huebner Chev and spoke with the new car manager. He clearly remembered the car because of the price and the difficulty they had selling it. He thought they had added some striping and wheels to help sell it. It finally did sell and came back with a blown engine a day or two later. Chevy warrantied it with a complete crate engine, not just a short block as was the practice.
I spoke with some previous owners and still have a personal letter from one of them. It knocked around Ohio [literally] for a few years and was somewhat parted out; trans is in IL. Someone bought the remains over 20 years ago and it has not been heard of since.

William you spoke to Ronnie Smith ,he ordered the car ,when i talked to original owner he didnt blow the engine sold it to a guy around Akron in 1971 where Jim at heartbeat city found it and sold it to current owner. The striping was candy paint which i have pieces of to copy on my day 2 clone, i have the blowproof bell, finned 12 bolt cover ,traction bars all off the car to put on my car . I first seen the car in May 1978 when my buddy bought it ,i worked on that car for him for 3 years , and i am making my car just like it, altered wheel wells and all. The car was raced at Norwalk Ohio only and ran 11.29! Car was not parted out but tore up and parts replaced!

I sold some parts a few years ago to the guy who owns #69. Nice guy. Believe he was from Ohio. He did mention buying the original block from Jim @ HBC.
