Installation of shifter boot & ring
Just checking on the correct way to mount an original non console shifter boot and ring for a 1970 Nova 4 speed. Does the rubber boot go on first under the carpet and then the 1st metal ring over the carpet and then the chrome ring goes over that? Or is it different? For those of you with a 70 assembly manual it is page 351. Also, the chrome ring looks like it gets mounted with special tapered headed screws. I want to put my original shifter boot back in my car and I have no idea what was original because it was taken out by the original owner. I have a small box with some screws in it that I believe are the mounting hardware for this but it is hard to tell looking at the assembly manual. Are the final screws for the chrome ring phillips headed? There are some in this box.

Re: Installation of shifter boot & ring
On our 1969 Chevelle, the lower ring sealed the boot to the floor. The carpet fit around this ring and the top ring screwed to the lower ring with 4 screws covering the ragged edge of the carpet. I would think that the Nova had something similar.

Re: Installation of shifter boot & ring
Keith,
Thanks for the reply. I had another Chevelle guy email me the same. I'll do it that way. It makes the most sense. Ron |
