Here is one of the differences. The early bottom bolt holding the filter housing on is concave/recessed in the middle while the new one has a flat face.

Early brackets were chrome plated very nicely well done -new ones sort of have a wrinkle chrome on them.It's not defective or shoddy but that is how they do them now for some purpose-kinda like hammertone but chrome.

There are also some minor differences in the cast housings.
