Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 L78 car, Frame OFF 4 speed!
The auction has ended on Ebay. I have JUST acquired a correct L78, 396 V8, 375 Horse correct from carb to pan excluding smog. Here are some photos. I will relist on Ebay if not sold here in the next few days. I will let it go for $43,500 with BOTH ENGINES!! I have pictured everything to alleviate a ton of questions. I think this is a great bargain and would like to offer it here on the SYC site first. Thanks for looking. Contact [email protected] or visit us on the web @ www.EXTREMECLASSICCARS.com

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 L78 car, Frame OFF 4 spee
I think several of us are still wondering what evidence was found showing this to be an L78 car, particularly after your request for information on how to tell if it was an L78 or not.
It looks like (most) everyone is trying more than usual to be respectful, but your silence on this question is deafening....please share this revelation you had. Regards, TOM |

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 L78 car, Frame OFF 4 spee
We have been in contact with previous owners. I also have been told "true or not" the "L" on the cowl tag is a indicator? Maybe someone can comment on that? We are gaining more facts daily. How many are left with original body panels restored to this level? Its a nice, straight, clean and tight car! Add an original L78 factory CE block and you have a nice package! All info has been posted here. Cant be any more straight forward than that! Thanks.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 L78 car, Frame OFF 4 spee
From what I've read on the Chevelle site...the "L" *may* be an indicator that it's actually a real SS. I haven't read anything about the "L" meaning that it's a 375HP car...just what I've heard (and read) that's all
From this site (and it appears that this applies only to Baltimore cars)? http://www.chevellestuff.com/index.htm 17 ~ unknown, suspect body cradle number for quality control ST 69 13637 ~ 1969 Malibu Sport Coupe (286,162 units) BAL ~ Body Assembly ~ Baltimore, Maryland 262249 BDY ~ Fisher Body data processing number (ID number on Body Broadcast Copy) TR 786 ~ Med. Green Ransom Cloth/Coated Fabric (bench) 50 50 PNT ~ Dover White (lower-upper) 02D ~ Assembly Date ~ February, 4th week B ~ unknown <u>L ~ unknown but is being researched to see if it does indicate a SS car.</u> 211 ~ unknown 281 ~ trim inspection sequence number found on trim card. 8 ~ unknown |

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 L78 car, Frame OFF 4 spee
OK I have tryed not say anything about this car because I have not seen it in person, but I can't understand how you keep saying how great the resto on this car is????? I can see from the picture that there is ALOT WRONG with the under side of the car let alone all the things that are wrong with other parts of the cars. Look I'm not trying to take away from the car I'm sure it's a nice car, but please stop talking about the level of this resto. And just remeber you are trying to sell a car that is VERY hard to tell what it was with out some org paper work or build sheet and we all know that (all thow some have been found) they are hard to come by.

Rick come and take a look at it. You are local and your opinion would be valued. Any comments would be appreciated. I found this article on the website in your profile. Sounds like you are recommending to buy a car like this one? Did you write the article?
