Ron, I almost hate to admit it...but I kind of like those little Novas. Lite weight and go fast.
More of a sleeper than the Camaro.

I don't what the weight difference is but I think our L79 is quicker than the Deuce. It is sure a blast to drive. We have been fortunate with the weather this week and when I get home from work have asked the wife if she didn't need something from the store just so I could take the Nova out for a blast through town. Actually, it never rains out here in the Pacific Northwest. Today, it's 85 degrees and sunny out by my pool. All that stuff about clouds and rain -- we say that to keep the tourists away

All those solid lifter big block Chevies are only sleepers if the guy beside you is deaf. An L79 might fool some, especially the '68 L79 Chevelle Malibu with the cast iron intake and Q'Jet. Even a look under the hood could deceive.

The car that was like Jake LaMotta Raging Bull (`I coulda been a contender') was the 1962 Chevy II (Nova). Chevy had Bill Thomas design a kit to install a V8 and made the kit available over the service counter. Bill Thomas built a demo with a 360 hp Fuel Injected 327 and 4 speed. This car could have been the grand daddy of the Muscle car before the GTO was ever made if Chevy built it instead of just made the kit. Would easily have been a 13 sec car with a decent set of rear tires. My have not stopped too well though.

JoeC:
I second you on the brakes. I have one of those 1st generation cars and mine is a handful to stop and it's just got the original 6 cyl in it!!

A friend put a ZZ4 350 engine (rated 355 hp)into a 65 two-door post Chevy II. The stock ZZ4 twisted the unibody up like a pretzel until we welded in some frame rails. I bet that kit 327 did the same thing! Now his car runs low 12's with headers, drag radials and a HOT cam kit..

I especially like the yellow '66 that Kyle and Stacy Tucker (Detroit Speed) built, it was at the '02 Bristol Bash, seems like it took runner up for best in show. Charley probably knows this car.
