Re: P M Monitoring FYI
I think an explanation is in order. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it's not going to come from the original creator of this thread (Billigen), even after many PMs and a phone call. So, I'll provide one...
Billigen's original post came across as an "accusation"...that's how I took it, that's how the others in the thread took it, and that's how those who contacted us took it. But, according to what Billigen himself told me offline, his post was simply meant to state that it was "possible", not that it was happening. Not exactly the impression I got from the original post, but that's what he told me. Now, "is" it possible to read PMs? Yes. Is that a guarded secret? Hardly. EVERY bulletin board on the net is setup like this, and as stated above, EVERY company network is setup like this as well. It HAS to be this way, or we couldn't help those people that email us needing help with login info, password help, profile problems, or whatever problem they may have. But, "do" we do this? Well, first wrap your mind around a few stats about our PM system, provided by our board software (remember, this doesn't account for the messages that have been deleted by the users, or the messages prior to a certain date that I pruned to free up space): Read but not replied to: 3932 Unread with a read receipt request: 13 Unread: 325 Read and replied to: 5327 Carbon copies: 1409 Sent in the last 24 hours: 151 Sent in the last week: 842 Sent in the last month: 2886 Total PMs in the system: 11006 Now, considering the sheer volume of the PM system itself, even if we chose to read PMs other than our own, it would literally be a full time time job. And, we have no idea whom the messages are to/from, as the software only spits out the raw numbers posted above. Again, as Jeff said, if you don't feel secure in our PM system, then by all means use an alternative method...we have no problem with that, and totally understand. In fact, that just frees up resources for the board itself, which in turn helps from both a speed and reliability standpoint. |

Re: P M Monitoring FYI
Thanks for clearing that up, Rob. I'm sure that you and Tom have a lot better things to do than read other people's PM's, whether they've been deleted or not. Like you say, it's no secret that every forum board on the Internet has similar access by the Administrators. The inference was alarming to some folks, I'm sure. I, for one, have every confidence in your discretion. It's just silly to presume otherwise!!

Re: P M Monitoring FYI
Hang on for a second, Tom B., please. Your original post starts off as a "heads up" that Administrators could monitor PM's if they opted to do that [not unlike every other forum board on the Internet]. But then you say that you have reason to announce they ARE being monitored, as if you have evidence...or at least that's the way I read it. Perhaps I'm reading it incorrectly, but it sounds to me like you are accusing Tom and Rob C. of monitoring PM's based on some evidence of same. If that's what you're saying, I absolutely refuse to believe that the Clary's have the time, nor the inclination to do that and it just isn't fair to accuse them of such antics. JMHO
