Is there any significance to a Traco stamp on a 074 Head. I have a very late 68 Dated 074 head with this stamping on it. I know it is significant for small blocks but am unsure about big blocks.

The Traco stuff is really cool. I have seen a couple things over the years and sometimes something will pop up on ebay. Even the original Traco decals bring a little money. Here is a link to a Camaro with a Traco ZL1 engine. It was owned by Dan Palchanes for a while and sold to Ricks first Gen Camaro. I don't know if they still own it. I don't know alot about Traco except they were also into the AMC racing stuff. Neat head. I am sure someone will want it just because of the Stamp.

See if there are any initials on it as well. My JL8 car had some Traco ported angle plug heads and I sold them to a guy in Australia. I shipped them them to Calif for him and he was able to research them through Traco and found out who the porting from Traco and found and met the guy! That 253 might have some meaning but not sure what.

-----If its the same Traco (and it looks like thier logo), its one of the most famous race engine builders ever. They were located in Culver City very close to Dick Guldstrand Enterprises. If Im not mistaken Shelby was somewhere in the vicinity as well. With factory assistance they were building HD racing pieces at least as early as 65 and probably earlier.
-----I once took a pair of square-port heads off a 66 427/425 Vette that had been "massaged" and were stamped Jocko's Porting Service. You hard-core HP guys will remember the name. I wanted to put them to use but ended selling them as I had nothing on the horizon to use them on...........Bill S |

Thanks for the info guys. The head does have various other stampings on it but the Traco one caught my eye. The head is dated 12/30/68. Here are some pics of the other stampings.

I don't know how much help it is, but this web page on Joe Mondello mentions Traco, K&G Speed Shop, and John Mazmanian (aka "Big John")...
