Tommy [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/ ![]() Guilty as charged. There were tons of jacked up and loud 2nd gen Camaros in Bayonne NJ back in the late 80's,and every one had a cool heavy metal song name on the back. It was how we rolled. I still find it funny how the high prices of restored musclecars is attributed to those who wanted them back in the day but couldnt afford them, now have the means to compete over buying them. I dont think I could ever imagine paying 6 figures for a 1989 Iroc or 5.0 stang, but I have plenty of resourc$e$ these days buy would much rather have my 73 Camaro all jacked up and loud over a 1989 performance car. I guess thats because even back then I felt my car was superior to the new performance rides,so I never pined for them. POWERSLAVE in 1991. Fat tires and air shocks!!! ![]() |

My best friend at the time owned "Wheels of Fire". Another retro hot rod. Louvers, stickers, slots, and a pop riveted on L-88 scoop.
![]() I would probably call my car and his as "day99" restorations. |

Nothing wrong with "Day99".....One day those cars and Pro Street will be hip again. Might as well get ahead of the curve.

Lol.....
What I mean is Rat Rods were the "trend"..they have tapered off and then Gassers were/are in. Now the late 60's - 70's Day 2 cars are on the rise. All you have to do is look at what Dave Freiburger has been doing at Hot Rod to see this trend getting ramped up. So if history repeats itself, the 80's stuff will be a "hot trend" again one day. But trends are for the bandwagon bunch and I hope that most of the guys and gals on here are in it despite what's in or out. That seperates the true hot rodder from the bandwagon bunch. I like seeing Pro Street and 80's influenced cars yesterday, today and tommorrow. Build what's in your heart, not what everybody else says is cool at the time. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: RichSchmidt</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Hey,whaddaya sayin pal, since when aint they hip? Dude you hit the nail on the head. I have been saying for a few years that the "street machine' look will be coming back (I HATE the term "day two". I know what they mean by it, but it is a stupid term). I have always been into the "look" (see some of my previous posts) and really cannot stand the numbers matching cars.
I was born in 71...on the North Side of Chicago. Actually a few blocks away from Nickey Chevrolet. Unfortunately by the time I was old enough to know what Nickey was, it was gone. I do remember the High Performance shop though (I remember the chrome wheels in the window). But I guess my point is, I remember all kinds of cars running around Chicago. And the ones that stood out were jacked up, had chrome wheels, were loud beasts. Every now and then I would see a car jacked up all the way around with a straight axle. I did not know much about cars then, but I knew I liked them. And when I got older, I knew more and what I really liked. And it was that bad ass Street Machine look. It was that look that really got me into cars, and it is the look that will always be my favorite. |
