Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
65 full size Chevrolet cars could be had with a 396 (325 hp) and powerglide. I had a customer that ordered a brand new Impala convert with that combo, along with single exhaust, when duals were a no cost option. His reasoning was, a single system would be cheaper to replace when it wore out. No, he wasn't interested in performance either, or he would have ordered the TH400 and duals.

They were a real pain in the butt as the trans crossmember was not removable until T-400s in 1968. You really had to wrestle one of those babies in and out! To my knowledge 1965 Impalas with low horse 409s would have had powerglides but 396s might have switched to T400s as the trans was being installed in other GM divisions in 65. 1966 SS Chevelles still had P/Gs in low horse option BBs and no 375hp auto options at all! 1967 Chevelles may have been split between the two automatics, but Im not sure. Some 325hps may have slipped thru with P/Gs but 350hps were T400s, and 375hps might have been available with T400s, I think. The 67s 375s are a bit of a question mark for me, though......Bill S </div></div> I was the 2nd owner of a 67 chevelle ss with 360 horse and powerglide, still have engine.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
I know my grandfather's 67 Chevelle was a 396/325 with a Powerglide.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
----Bernard,,,I wasn't aware that a 1967 Chevelle could be ordered with a 360hp 396. Only 325, 350 (which I had new), and 375.........Bill S

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
My Oshawa Ontario built 68 SS396 Chevelle is a 325hp, with column shift powerglide & 3:08 non posi 12 bolt. Built during first week of production, with VIN# less than 60. Not a 69 as being discussed above, but info may be helpful.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
Our old 67 Chevelle was an SS396...bench seat, column shift powerglide car. My understanding is the PG behind the 325hp BB was a beefier unit than the others...oddball combo for sure.

1968 was the final model year for a BBC/Powerglide combo in the Chevelle SS396.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?
----Bill,,,Thanks for clearing that up! I have never paid much attention to 325/396s I guess because they are towards the bottom of the 396 food chain. Only that oddball 2-barrel seems to be lower rated until you get to the 71 and newer big-blocks......Bill S
