Hurst after market shifters for 1967-69 Camaros, and 1968-72 Novas are all based off the small block location of the transmission...
The big block is moved forward 1/2" and to the right 5/8", and that why Hurst after market Camaro and Nova shifters don't fit without some modifications... I've been playing around on my surface plate I built, that will hold up to 4 complete empty 4-speeds perfectly inline with each other horizontally and all on the same vertical plane... I finally came up with a shifter mount and spacer to fit the shifter in the correct location for the big block Camaros and Novas... The bench seat shifter you need is Hurst #391-6848(which uses stick #6836) and install kit #373-7131(small block) or I can put a complete install kit together for the big block... The shifter in the picture above looks to have a #4106 handle thats used with the console shifter... If you need a complete shifter and install kit, I have everything in stock... Hope this helps... I have an old C/P Hurst in my 70 L78 Nova bench car, it fit fine and bolted right in. You can mess around a bit with shifter handles. Mine has a bit more "forward tilt" to it (less of a straight up look as the one in the above pic). Just my preference and it clears everything nicely. I suppose you have more leeway in a bench car set up,than a console. If anybody wants a pic or P/N let me know. Thx SULLY
