Default Rescued a Vega

Thought I'd share the latest project I'm finishing up. Found this Vega up in Washington that had been off the road since the early 90's. Been about 35 years since I built one of these and had a ton of left over parts either GM stuff or Don Hardy stuff thinking some day I'd get back into one.

My son decided to buy the car so I gave him all the parts, Don hardy 12 bolt, factory Monza V8 mounts, A set of long discontinued Hooker super comp 2135 headers and a pile of other stuff.

I spent the last 2 years building the car, mainly because the wait on other parts were excruciating. I basically put it on a rotiserie and did the entire car, all the paint, interior, built the engine and trans etc....Complete fiberglass bolt on front end. The wheels are vintage 15" Centerlines with the Vega 4on4 bolt pattern.
Didn't use the Don Hardy 12 bolt, my son decided he wanted a 9" so he ordered a custom piece from Quick Performance with disc brakes. I modified the rear floor to accept a full size 21 gallon F-body gas tank from Tanks Inc. Tons of other little custom tricks too numerous to mention along with some vintage 70's speed parts. He decided he wanted a Yenko clone and I agreed, it needed some stripes to break up the paint and I thought what better way to do it.

I have spare 327's laying around so I gave him one to build. Just a mild pump gas deal with AFR heads, small 228 @ .050 hydraulic roller, that made 490 HP at 7000 and 447 TQ at 4400 on Klein's dyno. On my scales with a full tank of gas it's 2730 lbs. It's madden voyage was to Goodguys this past November. It made the 200 mile round trip without a hiccup and he's been daily driving it to work since. I still have to finish the hood but it's at least bolted on the car now with a vintage dixco hood tach.

Super fun to drive, most people don't even know what it is and think I made it up, not even aware that Don Yenko actually did make Yenko Vega wagons.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Larry
