Just to update what I said earlier. The Clary's are not the only one's to join ranks and make supercars proud. As Marlin stated earlier, Neil Robbins has been out tearing up the dragstrip and my good friend Randy Miller also had his Camaro working awsome. I've seen his car with BFG sticky's run 11.89 through the manifolds with a NHRA stock spec'd motor. Sorry guys, clearly an oversight!.....Hey Marlin, let's whind Neil up. You say his car is slower because of his 4:56. I say mine is faster because of the M20. Jimmy say's it's all in the driver. Let's both agree with Jimmy.
PS: come on Marlin, you can spill the beans. I'm thinking after Brewers article in MCR that Neils car will have everone of them little secrets done. When he goes 12.0's I'll know why. Tell him I'm going to weigh his spare.

ok... i had a hugger orange 69 RS-Z/28
matching dz 302 the motor was .030 over
balanced. the 3927186 heads were ported and polished and it had the base cam... not the
offroad. 1 5/8 headers. stock ignition,carb,intake ect... had a 4:88 gear
and with 28x9 slicks ran 12.48 @ 107.5
i had a lemans blue 69 Z/28 same motor specs as the other but had an ultradyne solid cam 540/556 288/296 and a 4:56 gear
it ran 12:20's all day long 114 mph. it had an MSD ignition too but i dont hink it did a thing for performance. points do fine.
i'm now looking for that 69 COPO project car you are all sick of me posting about.
when its done you can bet it'll be at the track too!!! i'm betting 11:50's 118 or so.
tuning has a ton to do with making these old muscle cars run the way they should!!
4 degrees base timing in a 69 zee? no wonder they run 14's and 15's!!!! see ya guys!!!!! thanks for the great web site!

Pete:

Glad you brought up Miller's Yenko! I heard thru the grapevine the last couple of years that Randy was asked not to bring his Camaro back...any truth to that? Now, I honestly can't remember where I heard that, so it may just be a bunch of "BS", which wouldn't surprise me since he was there the following year with his LS-6.

This is great stuff!! I'm glad to hear COPO Pete races his cars. That is what they are made for.

I'm going to direct my buddy (Buick guy) to this thread for some interesting reading. I can not wait to the Pure Stock Drags next year. COPO Pete, PLEASE dismantle some Buicks for me!!!

Mike:

Just curious...does your "friend" frequent the Buick GSCA site? If so, he has probably ran across Pete and I there.

As far as Pete dismantling (sp?) some Buicks...unfortunately, comparing the Buicks to Petes cars is like comparing apples to oranges. While Pete does more than his share of clock cleaning at the PSMCDR, those Buicks seem to abide by a different set of rules. Those Buicks at the top of the heap are built for the "Stock Appearing" class at the GS Nats, which is a WHOLE OTHER ball game compared to the majority of the cars at the PSMCDR! Pete's going to certify his cars this year...but where are the Buicks?

But, like I said above, Pete does more than his share of "dismantling"!

I'll be glad to try to dismantle any one of them...as long as they get certified.
Randy Miller was not asked to not bring his Yenko back. Dan did suggest that his kind of car was not the type of car they were trying to attract. His NHRA cam was a little on the lumpy side and his mufflers were a little loud. Randy, being the gentleman he is, decided on his own not to bring the Camaro and bring the LS-6 instead. It was dropped after that. No name calling, no tempers, just "ok. if thats what you want". A true gentleman, just like all supercar owners eh!

Thanks for the info, Pete. I went back and checked some of my emails from Dan a while back, and he said something about the kind of mufflers they would rather have, and he stated some examples. I kind of figured it must not have been too big of a deal, as Randy was back next year with that SWEET LS-6 (hasn't he owned it since new?) and he spoke real highly of the event. I wish he had been there last year...must have been busy at work or something.

Ditto on the Buick certification thing...but I wouldn't hold your breath .

I'm not sure if he visits the GSCA site or not. We have this Chevy vs Buick debate everytime MCR prints the Pure Stock Drag issue. He claims "his" Buicks are "stock" and we argue about that all the time.

We finally decided that a if certified stock Chevy goes againist a certified Buick that the results may end the debate. However, It is my opinion that there will not be too many certified GSs and GSXs there.

Pete, I agree as long as they get certified.

Pete;
I believe Neal will not bring his '68 L89 car back, Brewer's 'stock appearing' car kind of puts a damper on things.

As for Randy's car, you are correct. Pure Stock noticed the front springs, mufflers, cheetah shifter, cam, and his 12.0 times at the NMCA events and made some suggestions towards bringing the LS6 car. Randy's a cool guy, and lucky for him has a rare car set up for each event! It was cool to see the HO COPO a/t and the HO Yenko a/t go down the track, I videotaped it.

M:

So, any chance of me FINALLY meeting you in person this year...like at the Reunion or the PSMCDR? Will Neal be bringing anything to PSMCDR? I think I met him n '99(?), but I didn't realize who it was until AFTER the event, and you said something about his car! Wish I would have known!!

Pete:

Seems like I remember you saying you WOULD NOT be in Ohio this year? I have thought about going IF we have the Camaro back together, but I would rather support Bob/Dan's event FULLY, as it was kind of his "brainchild" in the first place. I guess I will see you at certification, though! What day will you be there?
