Didn't all 50-state cars after the 1967 model year have smog equipment?

In '69 at least only the solid lifter engines got the smog pump here in Canada. The others got away with retarded timing and leaned out primaries. Jetting and timing changes did wonders for performance. California was using the smog pump in some applications at least as far back as 1966.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now. ![]() |

'68 on ,---the factory supplied smog technology--but the Federal Clean air act didn't require manditory testing with smog equipment until the 70's at least in the NYC area........

I know on the 69 Chevelle SS396's, the automatic trans equipped 325hp cars, and very possibly the automatic trans equipped 350hp cars also, did not receive a smog pump in 49 state applications. All manual trans SS396 69 Chevelles got smog, as well as automatic trans 375hp cars. I am assuming (yeah, I know the risks involved in that

Smog was standard on all solid lifter motors in 1969. Hydrualic lifter motors had smog only in polution control areas. Like CA etc. Charlie`s brown 396/350 CA 69 nova had smog. The ones sold in MN did not. Earl

In 69 all big block Camaros had smog in the US. It didn't matter if it was solid lifter or not.

I thought it was all 1969 Big Block Hydraulic lifter engined Camaros with MANUAL trans.were built with A.I.R.
And ALL the Solid lifter 1969 Camaros with Auto & Man. Trans, got A.I.R. also. Meaning the MANUAL trans. was the deciding factor for the Non solid lifter engines, because the drivers feathered the clutch,& had a Higher possibilty of Pollutants. |

That looks like a Manual Trans Chevelle engine picture to me & that should & does have A.I.R.(No TH Vacuum line next to the Distributor)
I have similar 69 Chevelle factory Hydraulic engine pix & they too Have A.I.R. w/Man. trans.,yet the same engined Chevelle w/Auto. Trans. does NOT have A.I.R. For 1969,I thought the BB Camaros were the same Scenario as the BB Chevelles. For 1970,ALL the Solid Lifter Engines received A.I.R. But starting this year, the BB Hydraulic engines did NOT receive A.I.R. anymore, regardless of Trans. type. Starting in 1970,all Engines & trans type received the new TCS-Transmission Control Spark System. |
