It's a specialty built vehicle for car shows or for executives. The head honchos could have a special car built for them under a shop order request. The Harley Earl Corvette or the Worlds Fair Corvette are Shop Order cars. Was the Cherokee Camaro a Shop Order car? They usually have a tag showing the Shop Order number on the car.

So how was a salesman able to do this? And how did he know he could do this?

Tim, very cool tank sheet picture of the silver/red 300hp car. I noticed that it has posi with a base engine and a powerglide. I don't think that was available through the RPO system and may explain why the COPO code was used on that particular car. I would love to know for sure.

Great examples but again how can we know these are Copo #'s or call it a Copo box when it's used for Copo, Fleet and Shop Orders?
Things worked differently at all GM plants also procedures changed each year etc so more examples of anything we can find w/ #'s in the C-F&SO box probably the best way to go from here? Could it be as simple as the S #'s represent Shop Orders etc, certainly this stuff must be well known in 'Vette circles? Good question on the Cherokee too, I love that car especially since it paced at Mosport where I grew up! ~ Pete
