Bill, my next door neighbor had a nice 72 , or 73 impala with the 400 bb in it. It said 400 on the frt fender. My dad had a 72 caprice with a 400 small blk. It said 400 on the fender also, but I don't remember if there was a difference in placement. It was confusing. Suburbans in that time frame came with the 400 bb also Cronkleton has on setting in his yard.

All I have is this old pic of it. I have it stored not where I am today but will go get a closer pic of it.

(comerucal Adv) It is a BB(now a 350) Th400 PS PB Cheyenne Super Custom LWB 1/2t pickup if anyone is interested I want $2500 for it. Usual rust in rockers and DS door/floor. I Supsect that there is some original paint still on the truck.

(EDIT) See below I found a disk of pic of it that I thought were destroyed in a kitchen fire I had recentely. I see I was wrong also.

In 1970 for both Monte Carlos and Malibus the 402 was marketed and badged as 400 4bl.
Chevelle SS, same engine, marketed and badged as 396.

I was aware of that.

But, after looking at over 1,000 cars at BJ and the Pavilions cruse night in the last week or so, I am just overwhelmed with emblems and such. It couldn't be because I am getting old? Could it? I just turned 60, Jan 7th.

Oh well.....!!! Perhaps I am getting a little old..!

Bill,
I will check my literature as I thought that was the topic of conversation amongst friends in high school. I used to impress them as I could always tell them if an Impala was a big block or small block without ever opening the hood. That was a LONG time ago so maybe I am thinking of something else. Or maybe it wass just the way the ground shook with the big block........

I did just find this on line. Now all I have to do is find some photos of the real deal.

"The 1971 Impala received small changes in outward appearance.............Engines included the standard 250 ci 145 bhp I-6 as well as the optional engines: 350 ci 270 bhp V8, 400 ci 255 bhp V8, 402 ci 300 bhp V8 and the 454 ci 365 bhp V8."

"Design changes for 1972 were minimal............It should be noted when making performance comparisons between the 1972 and newer Impalas to the 1971 and older Impalas that there were new methods to determine horsepower ratings. The 1972 and newer cars were rated on net horsepower rather than gross horsepower, which resulted in lower numbers. However, the 365hp 454ci engine from 1971 delivered the same real world performance as the 270hp 454ci from 1972. Engines included the standard 250 ci 110 bhp I-6 as well as the optional engines: 350 ci 200 bhp V8, 400 ci 170 bhp V8 , 402 ci 210 bhp V8 and the 454 ci 270 bhp V8.

ummmmm, could I have my crow with a little extra BBQ sauce, please? And I hope no one finds pictures of a car or truck with 402 emblems, because I'm not hungry enough for a double helping.
