Even though 1970 was the zenith year for Muscle Cars (horsepower wise), sales were dropping at an alarming rate due to high insurance premiums. Premium Gas was still selling for 36 cents/gallon but that would change. So for all those cars that didn't have engine callouts like this Coronet R/T which has a 440+6 engine but no Ram Air so it shares the same no callout hood with the 440 Magnum. The same for the Super Bee 383/440+6. Were the "Bean Counters" taking over and trying to save any money they could? |
