Althought the bio on the attached link said he bought it in 1970, I thought it was 71. He bought it from a fellow in Chicago with approximately 900 miles on it. He paid around $3000. He made some modifications and raced it a few times. He moved to Arizona from Illinois around 1977 and the car sat since. He took it in for the restoration about two years ago. I haven't spoken to him in a few months but it should be close to being finished. Some of the correct hemi parts were hard to find. He had to replace a few things that he tossed in the garbage in the 70's.

I learned something new today.

I DID find it in GGs white book.

I was looking in the list of packages but it is coded as a "stand alone option" but is in fact a package of items.

It is sales code C26 and is described as follows:
"consolette with formed headlining. Includes door ajar warning light and buzzer, warning light for low fuel & seat belts, and a formed headlining. Std. with Grand Coupe and Challenger SE.

So, apparently it has nothing to do with the stand alone leather seat option when it was ordered on cars that it was not std. on--Grand Coupe & SE, unless there was some kind of note in the factory price guide or Data Book the made one of the other required when ordering.

Contrary to what some have said here, I know of no case what equipment is NOT coded in one way or another on the B/S. Sometimes you have to know what is included in a package it is coded in.

I would gues that this would be coded in the "C" section between rear arm rests and headliner delete as the is a space for a 2-- code there.

I have yet to see a leather seat car without the over head console? I would guess if you order the leather seats you got the c26 option in 1970.

Not unless there is something that states you could not get one without the other. Chrysler had several situations like that but it was always spelled out either in the Data Book or the dealer pricing guide.

Most leather seat E body cars were either Grand Coupes or SEs. the leather was standard but cloth and vinyl could be substituted for the leather. Both those cars came standard with the consolette and the other items listed above. I don't know about the Grand Coupe but the SE had a smaller back window and a vinyl top. The real reason for the vinyl top was to cover the sloppy fit od the window plug.

All I am saying is I personally have never seen a 1970 Cuda' with leather without the overhead console, In 1971 yes but never in 1970, Not to say it never happened but I have never seen it.

I was talking to my brother about this leather console debate and the c26 package included with leather seats, it kind of goes along with the N96 shaker, when you order N96 you also must get 3 speed wipers and it will show as another option, if you order rally gauges, you also get a tachometer as a seperate option even though it is included in the gauge package, you also recieved 3 speed wipers with the gauges and it is listed as a seperate option. I have also never seen a leather seat car in 70 without a floor console? just something to think about. Rich

Well, SOME of that is correct. A tach was never a manditory option but was often also ordered when the gauges were. If the tach was standard, yes, it was coded seperately on the B/S. 3 speed wipers WERE manditory because the 2 speed motor will not fit with the six pack, air grabber, or Hemi air cleaner. I see no reason for a consolette to be REQUIRED with the leather seats and I find no sales code for the two as a package. Until someone shows proof that one came with the other or that there was a package sales code for it we will have to believe they were simply available seperately and ordered togather in these cases.
