However, I would agree that the pump should be at least 1970's based on the body design and America decal. Dave will probably educate us in a bit. Also, what are thoughts on using an early pump with todays fuel? I was probably going to use a new pump and paint it blue all over and apply one of the decals on the bracket. Unless of course one of the old ones will work. </div></div> I was told years ago that the only difference between the red and blue pumps was the spring in the bypass. My car had a blue pump on it when I bought it in 1985. It went bad and I replaced it with a red pump around 1986. I swapped the spring out of the blue pump into the red pump. It worked just like the blue pump did for many years. I had to replace it in 2004 when it started leaking really bad. So I bought a new blue pump and it weighed about half as much as the old blue pump. The new pump lasted about 2 years before it started overheating and quitting. Nothing changed except the pump so it wasn't wiring or fuel line location. |

Rust in and on the tank could have changed in two years. You could try to put a magnet on the tank at the lowest point, with tape,it can help{low cost try}.
