Talked to Marty Schorr today for about an hour. He remembered the car well and thinks that he still has many of the negatives from the articles he wrote about my car. He also gave me an update on the Motion book he is writing and it sounds like it will certainly be a must have for any muscle car enthusiast. Marty thought it should be out by the Spring.

Incredible story. I live in Monroe CT, 5 minutes away from Trumbull. Just proves that you never really know what may be left in someone's garage. I grew up in Norwalk which is fairly close to Stratford, and although I was only 7 or 8 at the time this car was new, there were a few older guys on my street that were heavy into muscle cars at the time. They inspired me later on. I am still in touch with one of them and I will ask if he ever went up against either of these cars. Just in my small neighborhood we had (at the same time) a '67 GTO, 2 '70 GTO's, 2 '68 Camaro SS, '66 Nova, '66 Chevelle, '67 Chevelle,'69 396 SS Chevelle, '69 Z/28 (which later belonged to me), '69 Camaro - had a 427 in it but not sure if it was factory.

Charlie. It really would be cool to see it as is one year and restored another year.

From johnk: [ QUOTE ]
Come to find out, 2 guy's I met a few yrs ago grew up a few houses away from the Mason's!small world! 1st thing my friend recalled was the stereo system with the funky rear speakers resembling a set of organ pipes, probably long gone by now. [/ QUOTE ] johnK, was looking through all the junk in the car this morning and the pipe organ speakers are still there. You are right, they are funky! Would love to hear some stories about what your friends recall about the car. |

I thought those "organ pipe" speaker covers were basically cheap auto parts store accessories? I seem to remember the lowrider crowd (Bay Area, CA) used to favor those back in the 70s.
