I just got a call from my good friend and he gave me the good news that he's finally got a deal done on this super cool '71 Z28. It's a local original owner car that was ordered from a nearby dealer that's still in business. Mulsanne Blue/black stripes/black standard gut M-22 with special order 4.10 gears. The kicker is it's supposedly all #'s matching and shows only 14XXX on the clock. The original owner mentioned having the protect-o-plate, and you've seen the above post of the genny original window sticker. I think he said the car's been painted, and has had new carpet and door panels put in because it got some water damage at some point during it's long slumber, but otherwise it looks like a '71 Z28 that's been hiding since the mid 70's.
![]() I'm supposed to go see the car tonite. I'll get spolier and build info when I see the car. Anything in particular I should pay close attention to? Second Gen Camaros are not my specialty, but this one sounds like it should have plenty of original markings and such in place. |

I got a chance to see the car tonite and it's definitely a sweetheart, legit low mile Z. The story goes the original owner purchased the car from Vietnam through his good friend who's father happened to own a local Chevrolet dealer. All his friends back home had purchased brightly colored Mopars and he wanted something different. He wanted something light, fast, and Chevrolet...so naturally he picked the Z28, and demanded the M22 heavy duty gearbox, D80 spoiler package, and 4.10 gears so it would be sure to get going for street/strip racing. A few other select options, like the super rare NK2 "Custom Steering Wheel" and an AM radio were about it. Dressed in Mulsanne Blue with black trim it's definitely a pretty cool Z28.
It's unfortunately been repainted about 12 years ago, where I'm sure alot of originality was lost, but it seems to have been backtaped leaving much of the original Mulsanne in the jambs and under the decklid. The trunk has been resprayed in an amateur attempt to fluff a trunk that likely looked tired after years of sitting in storage, but the good part is the sheetmetal is unheard of on a car that spent it entire life in these parts and the floor pans even show original red oxide showing through the peeling undercoat. It also appears to have been 'black rattle can' detailed underneath at one point, but all in all the car is 99% complete. ![]() |
