Bill,

Terrific and inspirational work! G70s are pretty rare on a '69 aren't they? Thanks for keeping us posted.

I just found this post by Bill. It warms my heart seeing this car come together after all these years. This car is real and it will be perfect when Bill is done with it. I saw this car 25-30 years ago about 400 miles away from where I live now. The kid at the time had just bought the car from the second owner a few days before he ran out of gas in front of my house. I was the person that pointed out all the special things about the car including the big Holley carb. I told him to be prepared to put allot of gas in the car because of the L-78 motor.

Thanks for sharing that story Mark. We tend to forget these cars are 40 years old and have some history behind them. Who would have thought, 30 years ago, that someone running out of gas in front of your house, would be discussed on this internet thing in 2008

Couple progress pictures. Been taking parts out of storage containers, and blasting, repainting, rebuilding, etc. Some parts needed rebuilding like the steering column, brake/clutch pedals, etc. The seats have simply been sat in way too much. I striped them down and replaced all the springs. They will be recovered sometime before they're needed. I starting to run out of parts to redo. I guess thats a god thing, but it also means I can't put the body work off much longer. I have a quarter panel coming. ( thanks Greg Cullum/Jim Hanke) Still looking for a good right side door/or skin (HINT).

Anyway, just thought I'd post these pics before the chassis and all the finished parts are put into a car bag (thanks Albert for the extra car bag) and stored till the body is finished and can be reunited with the chassis.

WOW! Look at all those parts. I'm doing the reversal of you Bill. I almost have all of the bodywork done on my Nova shell and it's time to start working on the small stuff. Maybe a week or two? So what did you do to that driveshaft?

Jed, I didn't do anything special to the drive shaft. I removed the old u joints, blasted the drive shaft and the yoke, then primed and painted the drive shaft with a stainless steel paint. The yoke was painted with cast iron paint. Then I installed new u joints, somehow, without scratching anything I was thinking of having the drive shaft polished and leave it natural steel, but it's gonna be sitting for a while, so I didn't want to take the chance of rust devolping.

That is one thing that I haven't decided on yet. Wether or not to paint the shaft or have someone else clean it up like polishing. I'd have to have one made or find a good used one. The one that was in my car looks like an old piece of exhaust pipe. Yea, it's that rotted and pitted. The only things that are good are the ends. I saw in another post that there was a driveshaft resto place, but I know they wouldn't want that thing. I hear you on the rust issue. I have to take of pic of this thing so you know what I have to deal with.

If the shaft is pit free you can polish them. I started with 80 grit on a DA and worked my way down until it shined. Then I clear coated it.

Denis Gilbert used Boeshield on bare metal, here is how it used to look, I wonder how it is holding up?
