Early NOS Red and Blue pumps
1. I have seen early NOS/used red and blue pumps painted all over except the mounting bracket-no bare aluminum pump housing but very rare. The blue pump in 67novaboy catalog is painted all over 2. All early regulators I have ever seen are blue like the one in my pics. Ones today have a chromium finish..have never seen one painted red. 3. ***I learned never to say never. I would not doubt Holley might have put in a regulator in early production and then maybe figured out guys were not using it. That being said I have never seen a red pump/nos with the regulator. |

Wondering if anyone has pics of Gabriel Hi Jacket air shocks from the 70's? Looking for the air inlet valve on the shocks, think I found a pair want to make sure they are correct for the 70's. thanks

Jeff,
In my experience, the inlet valves are all Schroeder or Schroeder like valves similar to those valves on your tires. So, a standard air chuck will work to fill them with air. For my '70 Nova. I used modern Gabriels (very close in appearance)I found in black that were painted correct white. I knew with modern shocks that the innards would be good.

I have several sets of NOS for my car...will get a pic..
The only thing I can add is always run 2 separate lines. That way if one shock blows out both quarters are not taken out LOL..I'm actually having my springs rearched and had small custom made shackles to lift the car up in the rear--air shocks will hopefully be more for looks. I could never understand what the black band decal is for on the air shocks..can anyone tell me? |

Hey starship thanks for the pic, maybe I do have an original red that had been painted by Holley not Joe in his garage with a spray can.
Thanks Sam, Whitetop Ok, the black ring is what I notice on all the vintage Gabriel's, which is on the NOS shocks I had found but the only difference is the air valve inlet is not like the one on Sam's Nova pic, the valve is straight out or 180 deg versus the 90? Sam I to thought of buying a new modern set say in black and painting them white, I purchased a set of repop Hi Jacker foils from a member on the site How did you incorporate the black band? Thanks Whitetop, thanks I'm going to fun 2 lines, have NOS Gabriel airline kits, Also have NOS Jac PAC compressor unit that I may use. |
