Smog pump alignment
Has anyone had a problem with the smog
Pump not lining up with the alt. , crank, Pulleys. The smog pump pulley seems to be 1/4” forward of the other pulleys. It’s a remanufactured pump, and aftermarket Pulley, brackets, ect. This is on my 69 COPO, Chevelle, original Drive train. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks , Dave Last edited by paint4metal; 05-21-2024 at 05:50 PM. Reason: Pics |

Update
So I took my smog pump bracket off,
And matched up the off set to a new One I just bought. There’s approximately 3/16 difference, The new one aligning the pump, 3/16 towards the block, witch is The direction it needs to go. I will mount the pump with the new Bracket tomorrow, give u all another Update. Dave |

"aftermarket
Pulley, brackets" Not much from the aftermarket is an exact match. Don't know why they can't get things like this correct.

I just did the same thing, then pulled out a lower alt bracket that had a mushroomed out spacer, installed it and everything was perfect

I purchased two water pumps for 60's vehicles in the last few years that I had to disassemble and move the pressed on hub to get alignment correct. You would think that the spec would be easy for a manufacturer or remanufacturer to hit on the first try.
Have you bought a mechanical fuel pump for a 60s or 70s vehicle lately? I am guessing they ALL get the springs (which is what determines the pressure) from the same supplier. They are all too stiff. I gave up on my El Camino, and just put a low pressure electric pump on. Kept flooding the carb with the mechanical ones. The last one tested at 12 psi!!!!!!! Just overwhelms the needle and seat. The ONLY aftermarket piece that I have no issues with is the Spectra gas tank on my 69 Z. The new dash is tolerable, but still not perfect. Everything else aftermarket I gave up on, and went hunting for NOS or used original that could be restored. Don't know what it is about the reproduction, restoration aftermarket industry, but it sure is frustrating. Sorry for the rant and the hijack.

I too have had my share of A/M poor quality poor fitment issues HBC at least rates his parts he helped out with some flea bay door handles I bought a decade ago for my T/A clone, he suggested the CHQ A/M and they worked great and were cheaper than the other A/M brand he carries. It's good to have good venders!
