Sorry if I am thread stealing. I need to find out what cap came on a 69 W31, some info is easy to find, this one is eluding me.........my plug wires are original but the cap is slightly brown in colour so I assume a replacement?

slightly brown? Could be a 309R. HiPo cap from GM. they have brass terminals and are real expensive. Does it have the name and number embossed on the top of the cap?

The first coil I bought three years ago did not work out of the box. I sent it back for a replacement and that one went through Legends Judging fine, and has been to 7,000 RPM a few times since then.

Yes, as long as the car did not come with factory transistor ignition. If it had that, then it would have come with a red cap, a D327R.

Long GM part number for the red cap was 800062.
