Would have to see the stampings to verfiy.
That trunk and quarters look like they need rust repair.

Even if it was a typo, and should be 12th not 21st, that would mean the block and both heads were cast, machined, assembled together and stamped all on the same day.

My 302 is cast C 14 9 and the assembly date is V0321DZ so if that engine was really assembled on 0321 instead of 0312 it would fit in pretty well.

Any opinions on the quality of a block that is cast and machined on the same day? My tool&die background would make me a bit wary of machining a block when in theory it could still be cooling? I would think 2 or 3 hours minimum to fully cool. Maybe they sequenced them OK. Was the Pad stamp done when the engine was fully assembled and ready to leave Flint? I suppose it could have been cast on 3rd shift and finished and stamped on 2nd shift (same day).

Here's one way to think about it. Many machinist, even back in the day, when blueprinting these things would re-hone cylinders while running hot water through the block to simulate temperatures during running conditions for more accurate machining since things expand and contract. Just a thought.

On certain build weeks of Deuces, the Z28 engine needs to be but a few days apart - or we become suspicious....
