Default Z28 Bred for Racing

The Z28 is the most recognized and recreated Camaro. It took one look some 50 years ago and I was hooked. That screaming short stroke 302 is an iconic engine, and the Z28 package was the brainchild of Product Promotions Manager Vince Piggins, and blessed by Chevrolet General Manager Pete Estes. The dream team included a host of talented GM Engineers, Penske Racing Team and brilliant driver/engineer Mark Donohue. The resulting domination in 68 & 69 Trans Am series is historic and help propel the Z28 popularity into mythical proportions.

I built a 302 for a guy quite a few years ago. It was the born with engine in his '69 Z28. When it was finished I was doing some tuning on it and he went with me for one of the test drives. I was shifting it at 6500 RPM to check the points for bounce. He was holding on to the grab bar and getting real nervous, like it was going to explode. I wasn't even pushing it hard.
