Unhappy Paint prices

On one of the Chevelle pages I frequent on FB last night, the guy said he just bought a gallon of black cherry paint for his car and the price was $1,129 for it. Holy mackerel, that's bunch of money.

If he's talking base and clear, that's in the ballpark.

That's about right. Be glad it's not a red. Some of the reds I do are well over $1500 a gallon.

I'm doing a blue now that was over $800 a gallon, and it's just a basic metallic blue he picked from a new car lot.

WOW! Last car I had painted, 65 Elcamino (Maderia Maroon) was 400.00 a gallon BC/CC
That was paint only, I thought that was a lot. I guess its a good thing I like original paint
cars. This was 8 years ago.

First gallon of paint I purchased was a gallon of "Corvette Blue" (Bridgehampton Blue most likely). Enamel. $18 a gallon+tax. 1979.

This is one of the reasons project cars aren't selling, although some sellers haven't got the message. Materials and labor have gotten very high. But I'm sure most here know that.

Matador red single stage Chromapremier in 2015 cost me $1800 for a gallon and a quart. I did also get matching sealer and reducer thrown in.
