There's always the argument about - when does extensive metal work equal a re-body? If just the firewall survives - is the car really re-bodied? Age old discussion.

I can move the confidential comments to the public side of the spreadsheet, but Steve would have to be OK with it.

My opinion is as follows:

If the owner of a car in the registry provides us with a copy of an inspection report we will make it public with the owners authorization. If they don't want it public it will be noted that one exist along with inspectors name.

Making information available that is second and third hand is not valid. In addition it exposes the site/registry to litigation. Biased opinions and hearsay can lead us down a slippery slope. If you are interested in any car it's always recommended to have it inspected, along with researching who restored and ownership history.

Steve,

Well done, a well written opinion.

Say for instance a car is maligned in a way that turns out to be unsubstantiated then say the owner of said car does take legal action... where does that leave the paying members as far as potential liability goes?

IMO - the process is working beautifully. If anybody wants to know the history, rumors, etc. of a car. Just post an inquiry on this site & follow-up on the comments. Then sort out the truth from the unsubstantiated rumors by contacting the individuals who post responses. There is a tremendous body of knowledge on this site & most members are willing to help.

Totally agree with Berry,...I have found this site , and the members here, invaluable in separating out real cars , good cars , from lets just say .....the rest
