I picked up the 427 that Freddie had for sale for future install in my '66 Chevelle. It did not include a pan and was out of an Impala and that may not have fit anyway. Wondering what aftermarket pan will work for this and not cause a clearance issue with the inner tie rods. An original pan would be great too, but I'm thinking the cost may be out of the equation. I currently have an LS5 in the car with the original pan and it seems OK, so maybe I don't need a year specific pan ??
Pretty sure all the bb dip sticks were on the right side, but not positive on that either. Thanks for any/all insight, help.

Camaro and Chevelle pans are the same, and all of the dip sticks are on the right side. There are small differences in the pans over the years, but they work the same. Dip sticks are not all the same length, so be sure the the stick and the tube are a matched set.

I just went out and looked at the pan on the LS5 and it has the indents for the tie rods. Do all years of Chevelle pans have those ?

lbnaz, I believe the pan you pictured is not a 66 pan. 66 oil pans had a hole in the front to allow it to be bolted to the bottom of the timing cover. 67 had the hole also but different baffling.

OK, I was about to post on early Chevelle pans, but the referenced thread beat me to it. Scroll down to Jeff H's post and pix, school is in session!

The pan pictured above appears to be a '69 pan and would be a good one to look for. I don't need an early pan with the extra bolt hole, and I like the location of the drain plug in the later pans too.
NOW, did that pan continue on from '69 ? and for how long ? Thanks guys.. ![]()

Two '69 and later pans. I'm pretty sure the one on the left came from a '69 L78 and the other is NOS, from the 1980s.

Thanks, Bill. I should have a wide range of years to find a pan from. I wasn't aware they continued the tie rod dimple thru all the years.
Bill, you know anyone on the Hot Rod forum called Gearhead Poppa from NW Iowa ?
