Default Wtf gm

I'm detailing my L78 Nova. I installed the original style fan and noticed when I put it back together that there was a plate made up that bolts to the rad support and the fan shroud. I figured the previous owner had made this up and I was going to get the right part as it looks Mickey Mouse. I was shocked when my parts guy told me it was the right part from GM. I'm going to make something up that looks more professional. I'd like everything to look stock but there is know way I'm going with this plate. I think only a Nova Guru will notice the difference. Was every Nova BB done this way?

Thanks

Yes, that bracket was factory if it is the top one that has the bends in it.

The fan shroud should hide the mounting plate
when it's bolted up.
Like Rich said that's how they were on 69-70 big blocks

Here's another view. Also while you are detailing, I have two big block top radiator hoses - that I believe are original - and notice that the hose numbers face away from the front of the engine bay. The repro hoses I see have these numbers facing forward.

Good luck!

I still have the original radiator hoses on my unrestored L34 Nova. The top hose part number is facing the engine, which is correct. I see what you are talking about by looking at Marlins green Nova. I'm sure all the repops are this way... They can't even get that right.

Not on mine. There is about 2" showing. I can't see any possible way the plate could be covered.

Thanks Tony

OK. I have the car back together. I left the spacer off as someone said. The repo fan sits about 3/4s of the way into the shroud and has about 2 1/4" clearance between the fan and rad. I drove the car and I can barely here the howl. I'm 70 in May and my hearing is going. The last L78 Nova I owned was over 20 years ago and my hearing was much better

Thanks to all who posted.
