The cowl plenum is now painted with blackout, repairs are now finished with the urethane front bumper, and the inner fenders are now joined up with the front fenders.

Looking great! That's the way I remember Daytona Yellow looking back in the day! I see too many at car shows that are off-color to my eye. They look too much like lemon yellow or something too bright.

Nice update, the VE3 came up looking mint. Meant to ask which firewall pad you went with, and if you had to overcome any fit issues, particularly around the fuse block?

I looked at some pieces from my car when it was painted in 1982 & it had a greenish tint to it. My paint shop had to work with the color for a while because some of the toners no longer exist. They finally got it correct & it matches the factory paint that was remaining on the inside top of the LH quarter, the area that's covered be the rear décor panel...Joe

The firewall pad I used was the molded OE style pad available from HBC as Part INT-2951. It only comes with the plastic plugs so you have to buy the rubber plugs INT-1322 separately if you don't have some, but the quality of the pad itself was excellent. Trimmed at the perforated cuts for the steering column plate and only a small piece was cut for the pedal carrier base. It fit excellent along the heater box section, all holes aligned really well and the whole thing was fairly soft and pliable, yet strong. The fuse block section seems to be perfectly aligned yet I haven't installed that yet. I will in a couple of weeks though.

As far as paint goes, I like yellows even when they are brighter, but I wanted to get this one right with the correct DY color. Ron is using the Sherwin Williams ATX basecoat/clearcoat system and matched the Daytona Yellow perfectly. The test cards he sprayed were spot on with the original finish found throughout the car. I am very happy with the color but cannot wait to see it with black stripes and clear later in the week. I'll head back up when it's ready to stripe.

Ran a few parts out to Ron today and snapped a couple more pics as he was fitting the front end sheet metal. It's really starting to take shape now. I also took him a Rosewood wheel that I bought from another member here (Thanks Barry A.). It had a couple of small cracks that were previously repaired and shot with primer, so my buddy lent his painting talents and airbrushed some color in after the repairs were sanded down. Ron will now add some clear coat to the wheel to finish it up for use in "The Brat". Also seen below is the color of the trunk spatter which included a premade quart that I picked up from HBC. Not exactly Norwood looking colors but I'm OK with the way it turned out.

The hood is on. Just the first fitting with a few minor adjustments forthcoming.

Graeme,
Don't forget to paint the trunk lid attaching bolts body color. That is a little detail some people forget...
