Default C2 Vette rack

Question for Vette guys, I saw this pic on Lees’s post this morning. Is this Luggage Rack a C2 option or an aftermarket add on?
Thanks,

Cuz back-in-the-day when these were just a normal car and people drove them daily or even as there only car, they might have the need to carry more than just a Hot-Blonde in the passenger seat. Local guy had a 1969 L78 4 spd Nova with dealer installed 4.88 and headers. Drove it year round as it was his only car. Or like Doug on here did. He's local to me too. Traded in a 427/435 Vette for a COPO Chevelle, drove for a few years and pulled the L72 and put in a 350 and sold it as just a 1969 Chevelle.

I know of a guy who actually had a "winter Vette" for driving in winter and other bad weather in SW Ontario. It was a 1965 396/425 4 spd with sidepipes. did it for over 10 years mid 80's to mid 90's.

Default C2 racks

These are no C2 factory luggage/ski racks. The first appearance as a dealer installed accessory was in the 1966 Accessories book. Plenty of aftermarket ones. Funny thing is, if you have a correct Ski rack on your C2 corvette with an accompanying original dealer invoice showing dealer installed, you still get dinged when it’s judged

Thanks for the read, Pete. Can you imagine the field day police and child welfare officers would have with someone doing that today ?

A person could use carriage bolts with the heads sanded down to washer thin and painted to match the patina, as best it can be, to blend in with the existing body. I guess the rack could be stored as part of the cars history, but it would never be installed in my possession.

Exactly, cover those holes with plugs that match as close as possible and call it a day. That rack looks awful on an otherwise great looking car.

I've seen this car several times and it is certainly beautiful. I have a twin in the same colors, but a convertible. The luggage rack holes are an issue and I would have to do something about them. I love the car, though.
