Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Jeff, Nice to hear from another local! I was originally from Penn Run and most of my family still lives there. Most of the time when we took the Deuce over to visit we would go through Clymer and then in to Penn Run. It was a slight short cut for us and a change of scenery instead of always going through Indiana. So back in the day the Deuce was no stranger to Clymer.
Sam, will have to check with Earl on when the Ansen's went on. |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Joe is correct, that date is would be a 4 17 as letters were not used. The wheel dates are spot on with the other original deuce wheels, as they were purchased directly from MotorWheel by Yenko - not from GM. He apparently placed a pretty big order all at once given the consistency of dates amongst the cars. Although Yenko obviously had plenty of stock, if he could get away with not switching out the wheels on a given Deuce - he would. But one original owner insisted that they change the wheels, so they did - but simply tossed a handful of 'Y' centercap decals on the front seat!
Sam, why no overspray???

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Personal preference Marlin. In my (feeble) mind, I got the motivated, enthusiastic, GM painter back in the day who just couldn't stand overspray on the underside of the car and painted my Deuce the way he would have painted his. If it makes you feel any better, there is spray thru on the SS and XT wheels!
BTW, the original XT spare is dated "4 17" (another Friday assembled wheel )

Geez, where are you guys working; the back room of Daisy Dooks? Looks like a regular lounge off to the right front of the car. Damned retired folks. Can't put in a full eight hours without a nap! Musta taken lessons from Howie. (Slick paint! )

Been to the other shop but haven't seen the new digs.
Is that a prototype rosewood wheel hanging on the wall?

[/ QUOTE ] In my younger days, I used to stop at a rather "dark" bar in East Moline called the living room East. This be our Living Room South. No cutting, welding, etc. Pretty much reassembly after paint so we don't contaminate the fresh paint. It used to be an Allis Chalmers dealership. The steering wheel was givin to me by a Long Grove fireman who had a small antique shop in town until he sold the building. He didn't know what the hell it came off of either. The next time the lovely Mrs. Cumby comes this way, you 'll have to stop out. Maybe we can find you a new yard sign. |
