Default Best glue for gluing rubber to steel

Hi,

What would be the best glue to use for gluing the original rubber seal on the underside of an original 1966 SS396 325hp air cleaner groove? I managed to carefully remove it using a
X-acto knife and propane heat but will need to put it back in after it gets new chrome.

Thanks,
Mike

That was going to be my recommendation. I use it for lots of things, great adhesive.
