Being a low mile original car I'll assume you aren't looking for aftermarket upgraded exhaust systems, even though there are a couple of excellent crossflow systems out there that I use and am very happy with. Pypes and Dynomax.

Dynomax offers the transverse mufflers separately, and they have a very nice sound without being obnoxious or overly aggressive, and also have the correct flow path as OEM (Pypes is different) but they are 2 1/2" inlet and outlet.

The OEM system are only 2 1/4" inlets with 2" outlets. If you want to keep those sizes and correct appearance/fit then Waldron might be another option.

They sell just a transverse muffler, said to flow a little better than a stock muffler with internal dimensions larger than stock, and will make them to any inlet/outlet size you want, in aluminized material or stainless steel. However I do not know what they sound like, I've never tried one myself.

Love to know what the waldron "Impostor" muffler sounds like. Stainless steel with stock outlets sizes for factory style tailpipes could be a nice compromise of performance sound and stock looks from behind.

I agree, this could be the of both worlds, if only I new what the muffler sounded like ? I appreciate all the input from everybody . Same goes with the Joey's Muscle Cars set up , seems to be a quality / cost effective set up , but the tone of the muffler is still a major concern

My plan is to try one of those at some point on one of the cars.

I currently run a complete Pypes transverse system on our Z, reasons are 2 fold. I wanted a performance increase with larger piping, mandrel bends and an "X" cross over, and I had planned to run the car in PS and the rules allow such an upgrade. However stock appearance is important to me so I grafted in the stock 2" tail pipes to keep a stock appearance when looking at the car from the rear.

I have several second gen Camaros, with various exhaust systems. I recently put a Joey Gray exhaust system on a stock L78. It sounds bad to the bone! I am very happy with it. I just bought 2 more mufflers from him at Carlisle.

Good to hear , as I was leaning towards getting one of his complete exaust systems .My only concern was the tone of his muffler ?! Does he have more than one muffler option ? Thanks for the input

Always great to get firsthand feedback. Does your L-78 car have headers or exhaust manifolds?

Great link. They have a 69 Firebird with the Imposter muffler which is their loudest and it's seems quite fine. Sounds healthy without being too loud.
