Default 1970 Chevelle LS5 value

I'm curious as to a ballpark value on my 1970 LS5 after seeing a couple different threads here recently. Factory Black with Red interior 2 build sheet car. I've owned it since 1990 and it has been an on again, off again project that would sit dormant for months at a time depending on what other projects I had going on. Original born with engine, transmission and CRU rear axle assembly. It was as plain of an SS as you could probably order in 1970 with no Cowl Induction, no gauges, no stripes, no limited slip rear. During the restoration I did add the gauges, tilt column, cushion grip wheel and power windows. I also added a GM limited slip unit when rebuilding the rear axle.

The car has had the body on a rotisserie years ago with the frame being completely disassembled, sandblasted and reassembled. This work is not up to todays standards meaning I didn't take the time to eliminate the small pits in the frame as is the norm today. Back then it was a big deal for me just to have a place to separate the body from the frame. Here's a couple of pictures I have saved to my computer. These were taken last fall after it's maiden voyage around the country block.

I would guess around $55k to $60k. More at a big auction. 4 speed with Cowl Induction would really add to the desirability and price. Very nice car. It would certainly take a lot more to purchase and complete a frame off today.

My first thought before seeing Jim's response was $60k.

I know the bench-auto combo is going to hurt and although everyone wants cowl induction and stripes I couldn't bring myself to do that. I was hoping to get more feedback but I can understand without more detailed pictures and stamping verifications it's not easy to do. Thanks for those who took a shot at it.

It is IMO Always very difficult yet EASY to get VALUE numbers tossed out on these cars. The cars we love and own with just a brief description and a few photos. As you've acknowledged. Some find it easy to throw a number out and it's gotten to be taken in the circumstances it's given.... A bulletin board. No verification or close up details and few quick pics. And that's ok. I just worry some people take those values and run with them or get saddened by them. Again, not criticizing those who have tried to help, just sharing my personal thoughts based on experience of being asked for values on cars.

Value is a combination of many factors not just limited to colors or drivetrain or numbers matching or docs. A combination. Along with Quality of Workmanship and Detail or Originality.

I think it's a very good looking car. Great if not one of the Best Color Combos for any musclecar. Eye Catching. If you were to ever consider selling or need a true value for insurance etc. I'd definitely recommend you get it evaluated by one of the many on this site who do it all year long for 70's.

Thanks for sharing the pics and your hard work it shows!!
