Challenger N96 shaker value
How much does an N96 shaker hood add to the value of the car? Car is a 70 challenger 440/6 pack 4spd with N96 ordered from the factory with it. I don’t see many real documented ones come up for sale. They all seem to of been added on during restoration. Can’t really find good production numbers them either.

1970 Challengers with actual factory-installed Shakers are extremely rare and coveted. There was a looong period during the model year (oct. '69 to April '70) when the Shaker option was not available on the Challenger making it rarer than 'Cuda models with N96. I'd pay 20% for a Shaker '70 Challenger over a sport hood car, maybe more.

You can't find what isn't available. Chrysler didn't keep records of their car production as far as options. Engines and transmissions: yes. N96 Shaker hoods: no. There are a number of production numbers floating around the internet but they are for US built cars only. No Canadian built cars. Where the info came from is a big unknown.

Just some more SHAKER Challenger history: the N96 option was postponed because Dodge was forced to design crumple zones into the hood. A Challenger has no header panel like a 'Cuda (or a '69 Camaro), and it overhangs the grille on the same plane as the bumper. So in a front-end collision a hood without a crumple zone is going straight back towards the driver and passenger, through the windshield like a guillotine. The other hoods either already had crumples or were easier to figure out a design for. The SHAKER took a little longer.

Here are "the numbers" I spoke about. Take them with a grain of salt BTW
In 1970 there were the following: 184 Total 164 R/Ts, 15 R/T SEs, and 5 R/T Convertibles The ONLY engines could be the 383, 440-4, 440-6, or 426 Hemi There are NO R/Ts with a 340 in 1970 In 1971 there were the following: 224 Total 72 JH non R/T (340 or 383) 11 JH Convertibles (no R/T converts in 1971) 39 R/T Small Block (340) 102 R/T Big Block (383, 440-6, or 426 Hemi) There are three different Challenger Shaker Hoods Early 1970 (Before early to mid October, 1969) with NO crush zones w/raised boss for triangle emblem Late 1970 (after April 15th) and 1971 with crush zones w/raised boss for triangle emblem Late 1971 (or more likely over the counter part) with crush zones but NO raised boss for triangle emblem |

Thanks guys for the info. I was trying to put together a deal on this car I mentioned but unfortunately the seller was 100% truthful in that he already had a deal going. So I was getting the run around. Same guy who had the LT1. So I was trying to put together a package deal and was hoping to show the N96 in the barn find section this year at MCACN. Guess you can’t win them all right?
