Default Possible 71 Convertible Hemi Cuda sighted today

I stopped at a local gas station and talked to a nice gentleman who was driving a ragged 71 softop Cuda that he claimed was one of the seven 71 Hemi-Cudas verts built. He's owned it for 30 years or so. Got it out of a boneyard for $300 back then. He knew about the Million dollar Cuda and seemed to know alot about Mopars and the worth of this car. He also said he'd been offered up to 50K for the car in it's current state and turned it down. He said he still had the original motor that was being rebuilt. Auto, original color a metallic copper, black interior, lot's wrong with it. Could this be true?

Well I serched the net and found a nice web-site that gave interior and exterior colors on the 70-71 hemi-cuda softop cars and it said that there were no cars even made in the color of the car I saw today. I don't know if the guy I talked to should be in a rubber room or me for getting so excited about seeing this car. I'm not much on Mopars but this was kinda like finding the Holy Grail then finding out it was repopped in China. What a drag! The website also said there is only one 70 Hemi rag not accounted for, not even a 71 like I saw. Please correct me and tell me I'm wrong and there still is a 71 rag Hemi-Cuda out there not accounted for. Thanks folks.

What was the web site ? Just because a site says one thing doesn't mean it is so.

Isn't the vin rivited to the dashpad on the drivers side? I peeked there and it was missing. You should have seen inside this car. No carpet, wrong seats, looked like a real road warrior. Why I actually thought it was real was the dual exhaust cutouts in the rear panel, disc front brakes, multi-leaf rear springs, but I never saw under the hood. I'm sure I'll see this guy again around town, I've seen the car before but never stopped to talk. I did sneak a photo on my disposable camera. Kinda a hobby I just picked up getting photos of "barncars" http://groups.msn.com/426hemiconvertibles/

I Think the color your are talking about is Code Y9 Tawny Gold, it's what Mopar calls it.

I have been working with Mopars for a while which includes a run-in with the actual "Million Dollar" Cuda. All of the information that I have from experience and contacts tell me that ALL of the '71 Hemi Cuda Convertibles have been found. All have been restored except the latest discovery and it is in the process of being restored.
A few things to note about your meeting with this person:
1) Just because someone has the knowledge, doesn't mean they are blowing smoke up your ass
2) A car worth a possible $1M would most likely not be a rolling heap on the road
3) A missing VIN tag is not a coincidence 99% of the time

I hope this helps.

Just to put this to bed, I talked to a friend who's brother knew this clown in High School. He said the only thing Hemi about this car is the emblems. He said he knows for a fact its a 318 car. Apparently this guy had a not to nice of nickname in High School because of his B.S. I don't know who the bigger jerk is, him or me for listening to this guy.
