Living just 30 minutes from Chapel Hill I know what Carolina Blue is. Was the color suppose to relate somehow to the UNC (Tarheel) sports teams?

I always thought it was dealer applied and not squirted from the factory. Someone set me straight please.

Legendary Motors on an episode of Dream Car Garage also had a '69 SS396 Chevelle feature car in Carolina Blue-that's how the color was described-----

I found my Fisher book and it does not show a code as you have stated. The closest code I can find is #293B used in 1987 as Silver.
I called a few who have Lacquer under their finger nails & all said they too can not find that code. Not in Chrysler-Ford or AMC paint books too. Most believe it is an in house reference no. to paperwork supporting the color change.
I agree, especially after reading the current "Chevy Rumble" Magazine.
In it,they Feature a 1970 SS Chevelle, built in Canada, but with Special Order Monaco Orange paint. On the cowl Tag is stamped SP4644,as well as 4644 written w/chalk on its firewall.
They too reference this no. to mean in house paperwork, supporting the color change.
Even though in 1970,a Monaco Orange Cowl tag code was --,some plants did their own thing, and went against the recommended way of doing things.
Your Baltimore 1968 is most likely the same.

I just joined this forum after finding it while hunting for info on the infamous 'Carolina Blue' GM colors from the mid 60's. My 66 SS-396 was Marina Blue but.........I grew up in Burlington, NC back then...WM Williams class of 67....

Now, to clear up (hopeful) any and all questions about that color...I KNOW it was available (supposedly ONLY in NC/SC) as early as 1966. I know this because there were at least 12 Chevelles that color ordered from the 2 local dealers....one being Alamance Motors on Church St. just 1 block from Sox Sinclair (yes...THAT Sox). Jerry Garringer was the original owner of a 396/375 Carolina Blue car. My best friend in high school, Charles Allen, whose dad ran Allens ESSO on Webb Avenue was the original owner of a 1968 SS-396 in Carolina Blue. Also, a guy I worked with at Southern Bell in Greensboro by the name of DAN Garringer (not sure if related to Jerry....but you know how it is in the south!) traded his 1964 283/301 Malibu for a 1968 Camaro, RS/SS 396/375 in Carolina Blue. To top that a guy in Burlington whose name I cannot remember owned Carolina Blue 1966 GTO and a man I worked for while in high school who is the number 1 UNC/CH fan in the world (Maurice Koury) drove nothing but Carolina Blue Coupe DeVilles.

I'm not sure if the color was around prior to 1966 but it most definitely WAS a factory color from 1966 through 1969. Maybe 1970 or 1971. A friend said he thought they discontinued it with the C/R drop and subsequent H/P losses after the 71 model. I would not wager anything on that/

Carolina is a pontiac/buick color. I have a Carolina blue 73 z28 and the color name cross reference is azure blue. Go to the Auto Color Library website to find the dupont/ppg/ditzler paint numbers.
