Default DZ 302 block with a 73 Corvette thrown in the deal?

https://dayton.craigslist.org/pts/d/...905864951.html

Stamping looks OK? Not an expert and no skin in this game.

Looks like a good stamping. I don't think the Corvette comes with it.

The casting should be a 618 block. 5K and with a no 1178 crank? That is steep price....

That would be a really good deal if the Vette was thrown in on it too!

Its not necessarily a 618 block. This 0318DZ stamped block is a 3932388 casting. Oddball block but my research found they were used primarily in this midyear timeframe.

Tom did you get the casting date on that 388 block?

I think the 3932388 Casting may have been cast at the Tonawanda foundry. It could be possible that Flint was running low on blocks and transferred some from Tonawanda. The 3932386 casting was produced at Flint. The engine assembly stamp shows it being built at Flint.

388 block had a casting date of B 25 9. It’s in a Los Angeles 04B car that also sported a matching set of four 1-28-9 YH rally wheels and a 1-30 assembly dated BV rearend.

PER the NCRS normal practice was the foundries swapped castings periodically to ensure that the castings from both foundries could be machined in either location...
This is noted in the judging guides for different years of corvettes... and I have recently been educated through this and the fact that my brother's VERY original 35k mile L82 corvette, has a Tonowanda cast block 014, but machined and built at FLINT - (front cam oil galley plug was unique feature of Flint's machining which Tonawanda machined blocks did not have)
