69 Camaro 4-speed Back Drive Rod 5773 Versus 5776
Just trying to confirm which lower back drive rod for the 69 Camaro 4-speed is a little longer, the SB 5773 or the BB 5776?
CRG has pics of the BB shift rods versus SB shift rods but no info on lower back drive rods. Last edited by 69L78; 02-28-2021 at 06:23 AM. |

I agree with you William, and I also had another member tell me the SB is longer. I have had a few numbered 5773 & 5776 rods in the past, but never needed to take a measurement. Now, all you find are rod's with no number's.

The difference isn't much. A bb is offset to the right of course, but is also positioned slightly forward [measured at the rear block surface] compared to a sb.

Reverse lock out
The BB is shorter. Not by much . I have photos to prove . Had a mint number stamped bb rod and a mint number stamped Sb rod side by side . Always wondered the same question. Can send photos.

Please post the pics. What are the lengths of the BB rod and SB rod. Also exactly what are the points on the rod you're measuring from. Thanks!

Here are some pictures of NOS 3955773 and 3955776 back drive rods with the part numbers stamped into them.
The 3955773 is longer by about 5/16". A tape hooked end to end measures 20 11/16". Center to center on holes is about 20 5/16". The 3955776 is shorter by about 5/16". A tape hooked end to end measures 20 3/8". Center to center holes is about 20". - Warren |
