Default Cragars on a 67 Camaro

I’d like to buy a set of Cragars for my 67 Camaro, but don’t want to mess with the suspension at all. From your experience, what size rim/tire can I get away with in the back? I love the skinny/wide look like in this pic, but doubt I could do that without air shocks or something similar.

I ran 15x8's and L60's on my 69 without air shocks and factory multi leafs. 67and 68's should be less of a problem. I think they had 4 inch backspacing.

15x8's on a L60/275 tire fit nice on a 67/68 but I prefer a 15x7 rim with the same tire because it bulges the side wall of the tire for a little more period look. if I could only figure out how to post pics ? I have tons on my phone I could share

The tallest I would run for skinnies on the front is a 6.40.15 tire. The smaller 25" tires look disproportionate IMHO and the larger ones at 28" tend to over stuff the wheel opening. If you plan to run it on the street and want to retain that natural stance with stock wheel opening reveal, then look to the 26.5" to 27" front tire sizes. https://www.cokertire.com/tires/640-...blackwall.html

On the back, I agree with Jeff that a 15"x7" is best for the wheels. Any 60 series tire in the 27-28" height range is going to look best, and the L60 Goodyear's are probably a good place to start looking. Kelsey Tire are the makers of vintage Goodyear and have lot of tire selections on their website. Coker also has some decent choices, but it all depends on the look you are after, and the type of driving you plan to be doing. Just keep in mind that these are not your typical highway cruising radial tire and require you to pay attention when driving.

In my opinion, there are no good choices for front radial tires to use on 4" front runners. And please not not look at any of those high speed radial designs that some claim to be right for 4" wheels. They are very short and the modern tire patterns (rain shedding) look horrible on these cars. In saying that...Bias Ply is where it's at on these old cars if you want that nostalgic look.

Also, if you are planning on Vintage Cragar's with the correct spoke design, plan on opening up the wallet as a good set will run you into the 2K range before you fit tires on them. And be sure to use the correct caps without the R logo on them as the early center caps do not show the patent mark. Good luck on your wheel and tire quest. It can eat up your available time when searching for the right combo's. (lol)

One last word on tires Mark...

If you want really drive the car on the Toronto freeways and you really need a decent radial option, think 7" wheels all the way around and Coker Tire's Classic TA Radial's. On my I 68 was running 235/60 fronts and 255/60 rears and it had an excellent stance. They drove nice as well.

Cant beat the Cragar look. Always loved these wheels. I run 15 x 7 rear Cragars on my 72 Nova SS. 14 X 6 wheels in front. Gives it a nice tapered look slopping down to the front.

Default Cragars

My cars ride height as about like your red car, maybe a little higher in rear. No air shocks or front mods. I run 15x4 in front with a smaller tire and never have rub issues. Sometimes you have to give a little on appearance to make things work,if you drive your car.
15x8 reverses in rear and I have to watch about getting it in a twist or they’ll rub on occasion .I’ll PM you the tire size I have later.

If anyone is interested, I think I'm selling my 15x7 old style unilug Cragar SS's. I found a pair of 14's for the front that I'm supposed to pick up this week. Let me know.
